The lightning bolt is one of the most recognizable symbols of the Women’s Strike since 2020. Initially, it was part of the logo associated with the protests, which began in October 2016 as a response to parliamentary bills tightening abortion laws. The author of the strike’s identification is Ola Jasionowska. The lightning bolt was meant to reflect the dynamism of the protests and convey the emotional charge accompanying them. It is also a symbol expressing hope for rapid change.
All paintings within the “Parasite Painting” series are painted on paintings, not of my authorship, originals, or reproductions. The works are acquired at flea markets, car exchanges, second-hand stores, or directly from people who want to eliminate them. I acquire paintings that are abandoned, discarded, and given away as unnecessary. Each work on the back has information about where it came from. The found ground is the starting material, the stimulus, the context and outline of history, and the nourishment for Parasite Painting. They become the canvas on which the history of the stucco is marked, which I take over and rework.
